Hidden Hazards

templeDo you ever wonder why those same chemicals contained in everyday products we use on ourselves and in our homes are those same products that in the lab they would treat very cautiously?

The thought frightens me a lot, and if you really think about this it should frighten you too!  Companies that sell products containing dangerous ingredients will defend themselves by saying that the amount of chemicals in their products is not significant enough to do damage. How could his be true if we are using many chemical containing products regularly?

My advice is to avoid anything toxic and dangerous at all costs. Save your brain from neurotoxins and your well-being people!!  I have composed this article as the topic of truly detoxifyng has been something I have wanted to tackle for a long time now. You have to understand that to truly detox it really goes beyond food and into things you use everyday. Here are a couple of suggestions and improvements you can make your life clean and green.

#1.EAT ORGANIC (Of course I am going to tell you this) The use of insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides on fruits and vegetables can leave a toxic residue that’s probably not so welcome in your garden salad. Choose food products that are certified as organic (READ THE LABELS!) That means that at least 95% of the products content has been grown without pesticides. If you don’t have the option to buy organic, you can significantly reduce the residue on your fruits and veggies by washing them for at least 30 seconds. You can also purchase a vegetable wash that’s been specifically designed to remove unwanted residue. Also eating organic saves you from ingesting harmful GMOs, Genetically modified organisms. Why would you eat something injected with chemicals and created in a lab.

#2.REMOVE HARMFUL CLEANERS, SOAPS, AND DETERGENTS Many detergents and disinfection used in the home contain ingredients known to be harmful such as formaldehyde, ammonia, and chlorine. Not only can these be inhaled while your cleaning, but they can linger in your home after you’ve used them, and are eventually released into the environment. I encourage you to make your own products. If you are interested in learning how to do this please contact me – it is unbelievably simple and you can make them using products you already have in your home. It saves you money and your health!

#3.MAKE AIRING OUT YOUR HOME/WORKSPACE HABITUAL Since we spend about 90% of our time indoors, we are inhaling household toxins and dead air almost all day long. Think about it….I recommend buying an Ionizer, Himalayan salt lamp, and opening the windows any chance you can.

#4. RETHINK YOUR CLOTHING FIBRES Clothing may contain chemicals and compounds known to be health hazards. These come from sources including pesticides, dyes, plasticisers, and flame retardants. consider that your skin is the single largest organ of your body. Why not be more conscious about the fibres that hug your skin all day. My advice is to choose clothing made from organic, untreated natural fibres including cotton, hemp, and bamboo. Take steps to reduce the chemical residue left on your clothing by laundry detergents. Buy biodegradable, nontoxic laundry detergent, or make your own by mixing a cup of pure soap flakes with a quarter-cup of washing soda (sodium carbonate.)

#5. JUST SAY NO..TO MERCURY! Many of us try to include fish in our diet for their omega-3 fatty acids. But far from giving your health a boost some fish dishes, can burden your body with mercury, a known poison. Even low amounts can cause health problems. You are fooling yourself if you are buying your fish from the supermarket. You need to reasearch healthy low mercury options. There are many distributors online you can order your fish from. To protect yourself from these heavy metals also consuming Shilajit powder in your foods (I put it into my smoothies and superfood pies) as it helps to remove heavy metals out of your body. #6. TRAFFIC CONTROL! Traffic fumes contain a mix of carbon monoxide and harmful chemicals such as benzene. To reduce your exposure don’t sit in an idling car (With rising gas prices this is a smart idea!). Car pools and walking are better options, although not as convenient. The key is to do what you can when you can, every little actions helps. If you have an attached garage or room over your garage, never leave your car running while the garage door is closed. Many studies have shown that the indoor air of houses with attached garages tested positive tested positive for car emissions, while houses with no attached garages had almost no detectable levels.

#7. STOP CONSUMING PROCESSED FOODS!!! Evidence suggests that many food additives, such as sodium nitrate, artificial colours, and the preservatives BHA/BHT, are associated with cancer when eaten in large amounts. Although processed foods contain only small quantities of these suspect compounds, why not cut your risk completely by cleaning your pantry? Go back to the basics by making dishes from scratch and seasoning your own meals. Your grocery costs will go down as well. So take out the trash to the recycling – canned and boxed foods need to go!

#8. THINK ABOUT RENOVATING TO ECO-FRIENDLY The wall-to-wall carpeting in your home – and the glue used to install it, may be stealthily releasing chemicals including formaldehyde and fungicides. Carpets also collect and trap bacteria, allergens, and chemical pollutants. Do you really want your baby learning to crawl on a carpet that’s crawling with contaminants. Re-think carpets all together! Use a washable area rug made of natural fibres.

#9. AVOID PLASTIC FOOD CONTAINERS Bisphenol A (BPA) is guilty! This popular plastic compound is guilty of its adverse health effects! They should not be used as they leach chemicals into your food. NEVER heat your food in these guilty criminals! Send them to jail (the recyclers if applicable) and avoid them all together!  Great videos references are on my youtube channel.
